Mátyás Misetics (1982) studied photography at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest and at the Berlin University of Arts. His doctoral study explores the relationship between space and human figures in staged photography – which is also the genre he has been active in since the beginning of his career in visual arts. Most of his works portray mysterious nocturnal moments of empty, outdoor urban spaces with the essential feature of artificial lights that break the darkness. The human figures of the images are characterized by static positioning and schematic depiction and therefore are transformed into simple symbols on par with the space around them.
